Police say a woman holding a baby boy has tumbled out an eight-story New York City window in an apparent suicide, and that the baby has survived.
Police found the 45-year-old woman in Upper Manhattan on Wednesday afternoon still clutching the baby.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
An officer took the baby, believed to be about 10 months old, to hospital. He is said to be in critical but stable condition.
The woman fell from an open apartment window that did not have safety bars.
Police said there did not appear to have been any sort of struggle inside the building before the woman fell.
